Typical electrical problems found in homes.

Outlets spark when appliances or other devices are plugged in.

If you are having outlets spark. You should have a licensed electrician take look.

The possible results from not taking care of the problem:

There may be a short in the circuit. Heat eventually over time will cause wires to fail because of the break down of the insulation around the wire which exposes the bare metal and is a very dangerous fire hazard.

Electrical Outlets in older homes. If you live in an older home your wiring and connections to those outlets may have loosened.

Lamps and other lighting fixtures around the house heating up when they are on.

There are wattage ratings for lights and light fixtures. The amount of electrical current which can pass through the wires depends on the gage of wire. The lower the number the higher gage (bigger) the wire is, allowing for more electrical current to travel through.

Light bulbs demand electricity based on their wattage. A 100 watt bulb for example requires more electricity than a 60 watt bulb. If you use a 100 watt bulb in a 60 watt fixture, the bulb will demand more electricity than it was designed to handle and the overload will produce a significant amount of heat, which can cause fire eventually.

Kitchen Circuits tripping

Washers and dryers, vacuums and kitchen appliances need a lot of power. They use so much power that some require their own circuits and breakers. If you are tripping breakers frequently then there is a good probability that a major appliance is sharing a circuit with whatever appliance you were also using when the breaker tripped. An experienced electrician can help you solve this issue.

Flickering Lights

If your lights flicker during a storm this can mean that the connection between your home and the power lines is not right. If there is a problem with the connection between your house and the pole then there is a real possibility that arcing can occur and cause fire. Also there would be a real possibility that the voltage entering your home is very high and poses significant danger.
