Separate the driving task from the hardware purchase
List typical kilometres, observed energy use and the hours the car reliably stays at home. Keep an ordinary-day scenario and a demanding-day scenario. The energy planner translates those inputs into an energy-and-time conversation; it does not select a safe circuit or establish the home's capacity.
Ask whether the desired installation is for one vehicle now or a shared arrangement later. A product with the highest advertised charging output is not automatically the best fit for your daily task. The professional should explain which options are technically viable before the selected product becomes a sunk cost.
Compare actual routes, not metres on a sketch
An attached garage with an accessible route is a different scope from a detached garage reached through finished space and outdoor surfaces. Identify affected rooms, exterior penetrations, driveway or yard work and restoration. State whether the quote includes the charger, mounting, controls and final documentation.
Ask what changes if the assumed route cannot be used. The important distinction is not whether the electrician can name a price per metre; it is whether both sides understand the access and making-good work required by the selected path.
Price the capacity options separately
EPCOR identifies EV energy management as an option to discuss with a qualified electrician. Ask for a comparison of viable approaches, including how managed charging would behave for the household and what a service upgrade would involve. Neither should be promised without assessment.
Keep device costs, installation, any new distribution, utility dependencies and expected charging behaviour in the same comparison. An option that costs less initially but does not meet the usable parked-time requirement may need redesign. Conversely, an unnecessary supply upgrade is not better simply because it is larger.
Know what the number does not cover
Identify permit responsibility, required inspection, product warranty administration and any ongoing software or connectivity dependency. Ask who supports the completed installation rather than just the box. No live installer pricing, rebate or appointment availability is implied by this page. Enter actual quoted amounts in the budget worksheet and leave unresolved items visibly blank.
| Quote layer | What belongs in it | Useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Charging task | Vehicle, driving and parked-time assumptions | Owner scenario |
| Electrical suitability | Capacity and compatible control arrangement | Professional assessment |
| Installation | Route, equipment, access and finishing | Written scope |
| Completion | Permit, inspection and operating information | Handover documents |
